Walker’s Decalogue, A Book That Inspires Us To Be Ourselves

Walker's Decalogue, a book that inspires us to be ourselves

‘O Decálogo do Caminhante’ is one of the most inspiring books  created by Spanish minds. Its author is Manuel Pimentel, a former Minister of Labor who left his post because he did not agree with the policy of his government, and a true guru of human relations.

Pimentel wrote in his book a beautiful decalogue that invites human beings to be themselves, following their desires and dreams and looking for a way to overcome themselves in order to live life in depth while finding the long-awaited happiness.

Next, we will learn a little more about the teachings we learned from reading Manuel Pimentel’s fantastic book, ‘O Decálogo do Caminhante’. There are ten ideas that can make your life happier and fuller.

  • First: the Walker’s Decalogue invites us to have dreams, ideals and goals. They will be the ones who will mark our destiny and will give reason to the efforts made in the search for the vital path of each one.
  • Second: It is important to set realistic goals, otherwise we will find ourselves crushed by them and they can turn into a martyrdom full of frustration. On the other hand, they shouldn’t be so short and easy either, as they can end up promoting self-indulgence.
  • Third: Don’t let happiness come only when you’ve reached your goals. You have to enjoy each step, enjoying every detail you will find each day.
  • Fourth: Once you reach a goal, don’t stop and look for a new one. A life without projects has no direction to walk. Always look for other goals that give meaning to your life.
  • Fifth: Always very attached to reality, trust your talent and let yourself be carried away by your dreams. Rushing is not a good adviser, just step by step, overcoming stumbling blocks and looking to the horizon with hope that your course will always be firm and clear. Also, it’s important not to take shortcuts. Go your way safely in what you do.

  • Sixth: Another beautiful teaching that we learn from the Walker’s Decalogue is related to the overall view. Your course must integrate the hard times with the happy ones. Don’t isolate bad experiences or get trapped by them. Create your own destiny with everything you’ve lived and learn from the past so that the future is always more full of hope.
  • Seventh: If you meet another walker, he will recognize in you whatever you project. Perhaps you think it is one way, but they will identify your true nature by your facts and performances. Stop making excuses and be responsible for how you proceed.
  • Eighth: Be consistent. Your character and your person should always go together to make you feel better. Otherwise, the path will be much more arduous and difficult.
  • Ninth: His acts are those that write his life’s work. Your character and you are the same person. So, evolve according to your ideals and dreams and let the protagonist of your existence be the one that marks the time of the narration.
  • Tenth: Remember at all times that this path is not done alone. Along the paths you will meet other people who, like you, are following your path in search of your ideals and dreams. Be generous and help others. Let them help you.
